How Do I Create My Own Logo for My Clothing Start-Up?

There are several ways to create your own logo.  If you don't fancy using an AI tool that spits out 'unique' logos and you're not great with graphic design software, it can seem impossible but fear not I'm here to tell you how you can do it in a simple cost-effective way!

Now bear with me the next line might be a bit scary if you've never considered yourself an artist... The easiest route to making a luxury logo that's completely unique is to start with pen and paper (don't stop reading just yet). Digitising simple black and white drawings is super quick and easy for any designer who knows their way around Adobe Illustrator. This is a great way to get a premium-looking logo that no one else has! Only you know exactly what's in your head so get it onto paper as best you can and work with a designer to straighten it up and add the finishing touches.

There are a few rules to this!

Take a look at the image above, on the left you can see the raw hand drawings and on the right, you can see the unedited digitised versions. If you keep referring to this, you’ll better understand the guidelines below. 1. No 'sketchy' lines. Adobe Illustrator uses a function called 'Image Trace' to quickly convert images to vectors, (read more about vectors here). This method works best with bold, clean lines.2. This isn't designed for complex drawings. The Image Trace function isn't made for anything super-detailed, the idea is to get snappy results from simple concepts. For anything more complicated you'll need a graphic designers help from the start. 3. You must have some vision! Seeing past what you're able to draw and what your logo could be is vital.

How to create your own logo

Take a look at the image above. You can clearly see the transition from hand drawing to perfected and digitised logo. 4. Persevere! Get your drawing to a place where it just needs some straightening up and evening out. No one expects to be presented with perfection just get it as far as you can and communicate clearly to your designer the variations you would like to see.  5. It’s important to keep in mind that sometimes imperfect is a good thing! You’ll see in the logo below that some of the original hand drawn ‘wobbliness’ has been kept, this is in keeping with the overall logo style. Most designers will automatically ’clean up’, if you want to keep some naivety to your logo let them know beforehand.
